The streets of Funchal are paved with stunning mosaics. Using basalt and limestone, the town’s designers have created underfoot patterns that transform a simple walk into a uniquely graphic experience. The high-contrast design of this dramatic moebius wrap is inspired by the spectacular streets of Funchal. The wrap is surprisingly simple to knit and can be worn several different ways (see below).
File under: things I am in the process of making. Her paper dolls knit top pattern is also nice.
Needled is one of the few craft blogs I really like. As in, not just “hey. shiny picture, convenient tutorial” like - but “you actually talk about craft in a way that resonates with the experience i have of craft as merging the banal everyday routine with a culturally rich focal point of expression through domestically available materials” like. With nice pictures of her dog and going on walks.
Kate’s ‘About’ page has some of her published essays on the history of knit garments in Scotland/the UK, which are nice for having an awareness of the historical continuity of textile crafts.
